Course summary
The aim of this course is to develop participant's understanding of the occurrence of depression and dementia in older people. A key focus of the day is appropriate evidenced based interventions which can be used in the community & community hospital setting. A stimulating course for any community nurse who works with the elderly patient.

Aims / objectives
- To identify biopsychosocial factors that can lead to depression in older people.
- Develop awareness of the symptoms of depression and when to access support from secondary mental health services
- Via case studies, gain an understanding of effective interventions which can be used to manage depression
- Discuss the aetiology of dementia in older people
- Identify most common dementias e.g Alzeimers Disease, and signs and symptoms
- Outline the different treatment options for dementia
